It’s one of the most essential (and free!) tools for online business owners. It gives you insights into how your website is showing up in Google search, what keywords are driving traffic, and whether your content is even getting indexed.
Here’s how to get your domain added in under 10 minutes.
What You’ll Need
Before you begin, make sure you have...
✔️ A Google account (Gmail or G Suite)
✔️ Access to your domain’s DNS settings (via your domain registrar like Namecheap, GoDaddy, etc.)
Step-by-Step: Add Your Domain to Google Search Console
Step 1: Go to Google Search Console
Visit https://search.google.com/search-console
Click the “Start Now” button and sign in with your Google account.
Step 2: Choose ‘Domain’ Property Type
In the pop-up, choose the “Domain” option (not URL prefix).
Enter your root domain, like yourwebsite.com (no https:// or www.)
Step 3: Copy the TXT Record
Google will generate a TXT verification record.
This is what you’ll need to add to your domain’s DNS settings.
Step 4: Add TXT Record to Your Domain Registrar
Log into your domain registrar (Namecheap, GoDaddy, etc.)
Go to the DNS management area.
Add a new TXT record:
Host: @
Value: Paste the Google verification TXT code
TTL: Leave as default or set to 1 hour
Step 5: Verify Domain in Search Console
Go back to Search Console and click “Verify”
It might take a few minutes (or up to a day) to confirm.
Once verified, you’ll get access to your domain property.
